The plastic-free wave has swept the entire hotel industry, and the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney has become a good example of this after California. At present, the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney has replaced the plastic room card with a new wooden card; in addition, the hotel also proactively provides drinking water for guests, with the goal of reducing 360,000 discarded plastic bottles each year.

Another sustainable change measure recently taken by the hotel is the introduction of Orca's food waste clean recycling technology. Data shows that Orca's equipment has avoided 39.73 tons of waste that needs to be landfilled in the past six months. In addition, it also suppressed the emission of 34.96 tons of greenhouse gases and 25.82 kg of methane gas in the atmosphere.

In total, a total of 52,000 hotel plastic room cards are thrown into the trash can each year, which pollutes the environment. The new house cards come from sustainable forests with a growth rate of 2.4~1. The new house card is made of wood and bamboo. It has a built-in RFID chip, contains a laser-etched logo and is lightweight and durable, and has a long service life.

Philippe Kronberg, general manager of the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney, said: “This hotel has always been committed to testing and integrating emerging environmental protection programs that will use more renewable resources and reduce the use of paper, plastics and fossil fuels.”

He concluded: "I am very happy because travelers posted our environmental protection plan on social media, which shows that our customer feedback is completely positive."
